Customer Reviews:
  1. Cats and glass
I have a collection of glass figurines. I also have a collection of felines. Without museum putty, I couldn't have both!
  2. Works as Advertised
I ordered this to solve simple mundane but aggravating issues: like keeping candles straight in their holders, keep items from sliding off my lap desk such as a cup or laser keyboard, and the normal stuff like vases and other sit around items from getting knocked off.It is very pliable, reusable,...

Wellsville woman passionate about pottery

Wellsville - When working with clay, Elaine Hardman not think of words.

She believes in shape. She believes in motion.

"I just had this idea and I just did," she said.

For 36 years, Ms. Hardman, a resident of Wellsville, specializing in pottery, generating everything from garden sculptures to bowls (concentration favorite) for spoonholders and cups. She also holds the copyright in the drawings for the banks of clay bearing the effigies of animals such as cows and elephants.

"I do a lot of funny, cute, fun facts, and I do many things functional," she said.

Ms. Hardman began his hobby in 1975, two years after she suffered a knee injury while working as a special education teacher at Chenango Forks Central School near Binghamton. After her accident, she received workers' compensation totaling several thousand dollars.

"My husband, Rick, said that money is a lot of pain, which she did, and that I should use it to buy fun. And when I thought of buying pleasure, I thought I would very much like to learn how to make pottery, so I bought a wheel and kiln and a roll of the slab and it all started, "she said.

How to throw a tall straight cylinder clay pottery vase on the ...

So I just started this year in highschool, and sometimes my cylinders work out, sometimes not. sometimes when i try to pull them up it tears off a chunk of clay and goes up with the cylinder only to make it lopsided and sometimes just fall off. it ends up making part of the wall thicker than the other. it usually happens only on the first pull, do i need to use my palm instead of my knuckle?

Well, it’s that it compresses and expands upward. The spirals are an indicantion of going too fast. If you can visually see spirals, and they aren’t desired, slow down, the spirals get smaller. Basically, the clay will fly everywhere because of centrifigal force, it will go everywhere except down because of the bat…and where ever your fingers or hands are pressing. Hope this helps.

How to throw a big wide clay pottery vase on a wheel demo pot ...

So, Dan, I tried using more water on a piece that, for me, is a taller piece and it helped. I find that I pull the height faster now than when I was learning and so I was able to get rid of the water before it started to soften the clay too much. The piece was still pretty soft around the top by the time I got it up there, but the base was pretty good. Thanks for your advice.
