“This expensive, glossy world is where I’ve been headed all along. Limos and flowers; waxed eyebrows and designer clothes from Barneys. These are my people; this is where I’m meant to be.” –Becky BloomwoodUniversally beloved by readers, Sophie Kinsella’s national bestseller, Confessions of a Shopaholic, introduced the irrepressible one-woman shopping phenomenon, Becky Bloomwood. Now, in this hilarious follow-up, Becky and her credit cards are headed across the Atlantic....With her shopping excesses (somewhat) in check and her career as a TV financial guru thriving, Becky’s biggest problem seems to be tearing her entrepreneur boyfriend, Luke, away from work for a romantic country weekend. And worse, figuring out how to “pack light.” But packing takes on a whole new meaning when Luke announces he’s moving to New York for business–and he asks Becky to go with him! Before you can say “Prada sample sale,” Becky has landed...
Accent colors are a 'spark of optimism'
The searing heat of summer is gone, and the frigid chill of winter is yet to come.

If you’re ready to spruce up your home for autumn, the pros in the color industry would advise you to take a cue from the weather:

It’s a good time to put it in neutral.

Barbara Richardson, director of color marketing for AkzoNobel Paints, says the warm hues of autumn also reflect the colors that will be popular in 2012.

“A delicate mix is what we’re after,” says Richardson, whose company represents Glidden Paint, as well as the Martha Stewart line and other brands. “It’s about appreciating the nuances in earthy tones. We’re turning to neutrals, but warm shades of them.”

If an earthy beige or charcoal tone starts to feel a little flat, accessorize your home the way you would your wardrobe, Richardson says. Little touches make a big impact.

Glidden’s color of the year, Terra Cotta Rose, is similar to the shade of deep pink the color industry experts at Pantone gave highest honor to this year: Honeysuckle.

“If it’s too feminine for your tastes, try just a touch of it in a small accent piece or on one wall,” Richardson says. AkzoNobel highlights the color in its annual “ColourFutures” book, which provides international color trend research.

If even a touch of the deep pink color of the year isn’t grabbing you for fall, Richardson suggests you turn to the great pumpkin.

“A deep orange signifies possibility,” she says. “That punch of color is a spark of optimism.”

Allan Stever, co-owner of J’Adore Home & Garden in Brookside, must have one of the most optimistic stores around.

“We’ve always been about the deep oranges, wheats and yellows,” says Stever, pausing to straighten a colorful orange-patterned pillow that rests on an elegant sofa.

Stever and his partner, Michael Richardson, recently expanded the store, which has been drawing fans of French country style furniture and accessories for 13 years.

Nature, he says, should always influence color decisions, whether shopping for a neutral shade for a sofa, or the perfect paint for an accent wall.

“If you look at a row of spices, you’re looking at a natural color palette,” says Stever, pointing out a Company C rug with earthy green and orange accents. “The same with the produce section at your grocery store. Look at the fruits and vegetables, and that’s your palette.”

Although he likes this year’s trend toward floral, earthy hues, Stever suggests the “in” color of the year isn’t always a great fit for Kansas City.

“Awhile back, the color of the year was a sea foam shade,” Stever says. “We’re in an old part of Kansas City, and those homes from the early 1900s don’t look right with modern furniture or colors like that. People know that, and we had stuff we just couldn’t get rid of that year.”

Interior designer Kathleen Ramsey believes in a light touch.

“Don’t go overboard with a really bold color,” says the American Society of Interior Designers member. “Stick with the warm neutrals and layer the colors in.

“In my career, I’ve met people who have a color-commitment phobia,” she says. “Don’t be afraid of it. Use blocking color on just one accent wall.”

And don’t make color decisions in a void, says Ramsey, who owns Ramsey Interiors. “You have to look at the whole area, your mix of lights and darks. And by all means, have some fun with those colors.”

When times are tough, Richardson says, you’re more likely to have that fun with accessories, not the big pieces in your home.

“Put it in terms of clothing,” she says. “If you’re confident in your job and making good money, you might go coat shopping and see a black coat and a red coat, then decide to buy them both,” Richardson says. “But if you’re not confident, you’re likely to go with that black coat and buy a colorful scarf to accent it. A scarf isn’t the investment another coat would be.”

In the language of home décor, that translates into a neutral tone in a sofa that is jazzed up by colorful pillows and throws.

“The neutral colors are what you turn to when you’re worried or stressed out,” Richardson says. “They make you feel safe and embraced.
Purple Go Lavender: Just mumbling...
The toaster on the left side of picture No. 4 is mine (emm, the microwave also mine lah, but toaster I had it for some time). I remember I used to have other miniatures from Wanroom such as tissue box, lamp, and clock. Unfortunately, I lost it and only left the toaster. So sad ToT. I remember I got it from gashapon machine. Haih... For those who do not know what is Wanroom, Wanroom is a collection of household items with dog faces by San-X (that produced a lot of cute characters like Tarepanda, Rilakkuma, Kogepan and Afro Ken). Their slogan is "Let's enjoy Wanroom life!" ( Wikipedia ). Where I can get full collection of Wanroom items? Anyone know?

Having someone special make them a special dream pillow filled with lavender will work wonders. It doesn't need to be large; hand-size is fine, because it is the smell that keeps the monsters and bad dreams away. A bad dream spray is also a good way toDaily Mail - Jan 01, 1970
Smells delicious. This big box of goodies will be loved by any mum. It contains hand soak, hand lotion, body spray, pillow mist, hair conditioning treatment and a giant body scrubbing puff. Fantastic value in a box they'll want to keep.

You bought her a lavender-scented neck pillow last birthday which had to be heated up in the microwave. It smelled like yeast but she still used it. “It's been better,” she says. You go and get the lavender neck pillow, heat it up for thirty seconds,
