LANCASTER -- At the International Coin Collectors Association global tour, the change in your pocket might buy a little more than a treat from the vending machine -- if it's old enough.
The Springfield, Ill.-based organization is making a stop in Lancaster from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the East Gate Event Center, 2585 E. Main St. The event is free.
The right coins could fetch big bucks at the event, which will feature experts who can appraise coins, said Tyler Kelly, a public relations manager for the association.
"The coins that are driving the most money right now are from 1964 and before," he said.
Coins that were minted before 1965 contain 90 percent silver, a market that is booming, Kelly said.
"The gold and silver markets are going out of control right now. They're at all time highs. The value of the coins is driving up as well," he said. "Really, they're just booming right now.
Touring coin collectors visit Sault - The Sault Star - Ontario, CA
The International Coin Collectors will be stopping by Sault Ste. Marie from Aug. 9 to 13 as part of their global tour.
They will be setup at the Comfort Suites and Conference Centre from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The ICC is looking to buy your coins, paper currency, gold and silver.
