The difficult road of a Lakhota shaman, with heart and humor
Those who know Wallace Black Elk personally know that Bill Lyons captures the flavor of Grandfather's humor, the deeper teachings that lay behind the words, as well as the pain and difficulties that have gone into making access to the Spirit available to all. When you read this book,... -
Excellent intro into Lakota spirituality
It is rather interesting to see the controversy surrounding Wallace Black Elk and his activities. Although Wallace is a Rosebud medicine man with impeccable credentials, he has become too well known and that means he has broken an unspoken taboo that cannot be forgiven within his community....

Police: Carlisle man caught huffing air duster
A Carlisle man who spent almost a year behind bars because of an addiction to inhaling dust remover was caught huffing an aerosol air duster about two weeks after he was paroled, according to Carlisle police.
Police said Ryan J. Black, 28, was found in the 1100 block of Walnut Bottom Road in South Middleton Township around 6:15 p.m. Aug. 3 inhaling the air duster.
Fortunately for Black, this public drunkenness charge will not be going past district court like his previous offenses - mostly because, this time, Black was not caught stealing the air duster.
Black entered a guilty plea to the public drunkenness charge Tuesday and paid fines and costs of $338.50, according to court documents.
Black was released from his 11-and-a-half to 23-month prison sentence July 23, with a special condition that he attend counseling at the Stevens Center and attend Narcotics Anonymous meetings.
When Black was sentenced for three previous crimes April 5, he told Judge Edward Guido that he was ready to say good-bye to air dusters.
